Short Salt Pot Heat Treater:

I built this short "Salt Pot" heat treater after using my tall salt rig for a while. I built the tall unit for swords (it will accommodate blades up to 40 inches) and after a while it seemed silly to heat up all that salt if all I had to do were a couple six-inch knives. like the larger unit, this salt pot is propane fired. It uses a Watlow 96 digital controller to tend the temperature. High-temp isothermal salt (Nu-Sal) is heated in a 6-inch diameter schedule 40 (3/8 inch thick) 316 stainless steel tube. I use this unit for knives up to 13 inches. It reaches 1,600 degrees F. in about 30 minutes.
